The Evolution of Post 11 comments

Post is evoluting. Here’s how :

Most obvious one is normal writing. Journal, or article like this.
Aside normal post, we easily found Miniblog / Sidenotes and Quicklinks.

Multimedia materials, such as photoblogs, podcasts, and vlog.

Structured blogging made post easily to be alleviated into reviews (books, movies, events, whatever).

However, all of them shares characteristic of a post :

  • They’re all intended to be arranged in reverse-chronological (newest post comes first)
  • They have permalink
  • If possible, they got commenting system (optional)

Let me put them all in a brief UML diagram :

post

Post is our ‘base model’, we make different kind of post derived from it.

Post is just a mimic of generalization in real world. Example : vehicle is the super of airplane, bycle, SUV, and batmobile.

So, Post is the super of normal post (itself), quicklinks, photoblog, tumbleblog, etc.

Geeky notes :
  • Of course, we can easily refine/refactor this diagram by completing all class members and adding specific feature such as IFolksonomy (to extend categories into tags) or ISocialBookmark (to associate specific post with Del.iciou.us or Digg). But that’s beyond our discussion :)
  • I found UML cheatsheet is handy.

How to utilize all of them in one blog ?

We need blog engine that supports for multiple blog and flexible template mechanism.
Or, we need some helps from any third party services.

Sideblog is perfect for miniblog/aside, especially if we use free hosted blogging services such as Blogspot or Blogdrive.

Del.icio.us is good to share bookmarks and act as quicklinks. Thomas has a nice trick to display del.icio.us entries using Magpie library.
Anyway, I have easier method, though. It works for free blogging service also. Stay tune ;-)

Once, I used Wordpress. I found several plugins/mods such as Recent Links, Miniblog, Structured Blogging, Now Reading, and Aside hack are useful.

Ash Textpattern Thrakatul√Ľk Agh Burzum-ishi Krimpatul

... or, Textpattern to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

Textpattern’s features that I easily fall in love with are “forms” and “override form”.

Override form, let us to display particular post with different layout. Combine with multi section (or, multi weblogs) capabilities, the possibilites soon become limitless.

Notice how I display my movie review and book review posts. I use ReviewMoview and ReviewBook override form respectfully.

I can easily ‘bend’, customize, hack, anything that I can imagine to create a lot of cool effects and create different kind of posts using override form.

Totally cool.

The devil in details. John Hicks Notes and Kusor are good readings to get you started with override form.

I’ll post my detail code (and CSS) in id-texpattern, if you wish.

Dari sejarahnya, weblog (web log) bermula dari semacam sideblog/quicklinks dulu.

Link ke berbagai hal di internet.

Kemudian dikasih komentar subjektif, kemudian dikasih opini, kemudian dikasih perspektif pribadi, trus cerita pribadi, link2xnya trus ilang diganti cerita pribadi.

Link2xnya muncul di pinggir hehe jadi sideblog.

Back to history, all I needed was a simple tool to manage my personal website so I could concentrate to my writings. I even did not know that it was a kind of blog tool and did not think that I dove into blogging.

Oh, jadi itu kenapa kamu tergila-gila textpattern.

membaca penuturan terakhir ttg Tp saya jadi tertarik untuk mencobanya..
hiyaaah benar… ;)

Hm.. sejarah saya hanya mereferensi ke Wikipedia (apa lagi?) dan beberapa artikel Rebecca Blood.
Linkblog yang dimaksud, apa itu Waxy ?

First time, I only interest in Wiki, not Blog. I didn’t even know that I really get into blog and CMS.
All I do care is personal knowledge management system and ideas-sharing made easy ;)

Kamu harus ikut “bimbel”(Bimbingan Belajar) id-textpattern deh .. hehe..

Itu bahasa Mordor lagi.. Kalo bahasa elves, gw masih nunggu jasa penterjemah..

Kenz
Masalah selera dan kebutuhan sih. Kalo memang ingin sangat flexibel memang nyaman pakai TxP.

I put my blog design/structure on blogsome technicians hands.
saya pikir bagus apa yg kamu tulis (pura2 ngerti)*
:D

di butuhkan blog engine berorientasi obyek (eh… blog dink), bener-bener visual (bukan visual text), real user friendly (bahkan nenek-nenek pun gak merasa kesulitan) dan gratis !

** this is not junk **
